Judy joined Tyndallwoods in 1974 straight from university and was articled to her father, Ken Dyer. She has practised private client law exclusively since 1978, becoming Partner in charge of the Private Client Department in 1982. For over thirty five years her working time has been spent drafting Wills, advising in relation to the administration of Estates and Trusts and related taxes. Judy is a member of The Law Society Private Client Section, Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and Solicitors For the Elderly. Judy was honoured to be invited to become a member of the Court of the University of Birmingham for a six year term from July 2012.
Judy was educated at King Edward VI High School for Girls, Edgbaston. She gained LL.B. Hons in Law at University of Birmingham. Recently, Judy was one of six finalists in the Solicitor of the Year sector of the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards and is a winner of the Birmingham Law Society Legal Pro Bono Award.
Judy is married to Martin also of Tyndallwoods and is the proud mother of Harriet and Michael. She is a member of St George’s Church, Edgbaston and was on the committee which was successful in raising £485,000 for the Church Restoration Appeal. She also attends and supports Llansallos Church, Cornwall and Portsmouth Cathedral. Judy was pleased to be appointed a Bishop’s Visitor by Bishop Mark Santer, served under Bishop John Sentamu and continues in this role for the present Bishop of Birmingham David Urquhart.
Judy is an enthusiastic charity worker. As Patron of Edward’s Trust Supporting children and families who are facing loss and surviving bereavement she has raised income for the charity and also funds for the Edward’s Trust Garden at the National Memorial Arboretum. In 2011, the 21st anniversary of Edward’s Trust, she brought together a team of 76 runners to run the Birmingham Half Marathon in support of the valuable charity. She was pleased to collate a book to commemorate the charity’s 25th anniversary ‘Flying the Kite for 25 years’. She also serves as Patron of Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and for their 35th anniversary year, she organised an auction in conjunction with Fieldings Auctioneers of ’35 lots for 35 years’ and was grateful that this event raised over £4,300. Being actively involved in the Legacy Promotion Campaign, Judy advises several local charities in relation to their legacy promotion initiatives including Edward’s Trust, Birmingham Focus on Blindness, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, Town Hall/Symphony Hall and the University of Birmingham.
During 2014 Judy was honoured to be elected as Chairman of The King Edward VI High School for Girls Birmingham Trust being a newly formed charity to promote the education of the pupils at the school including the awarding of scholarships and assisted places on the basis of financial need to enable pupils to attend the school.
Judy is proud to be a member of Court of the University of Birmingham. Also, Cancer Research UK appointed her Ambassador for Birmingham: United We Will Beat Cancer.
Judy was also nominated for the NatWest Venus Recognising Women in Business Awards. With over 2,000 nominations it was a great honour to win the Greater Birmingham Region Lifetime Achievement Award.
Judy has also written and published “Funeral Matters – A collection of poems, readings, hymns and music for funeral services”.
Over the years Judy has been pleased to engage with the media. Her articles are published monthly in The Harborne Edgbaston Gazette and various Directories circulated to homes and businesses in the local area.
