Gillian Lever’s magnificent oil paintings “Seven Last Words”
We are pleased that our clients share with us the special features of our Victorian Building including the beautiful oak panelled Board Room with stained glass windows.
As we move towards Easter we are displaying six magnificent oil paintings of local artist Gillian Lever.
This 6 foot painting is “Women, Behold thy son, Behold thy mother.” The canvas was painted by Gillian as she listened to Haydn’s profoundly spiritual and insightful music. It stands alone as a meditation. The work reflects the moment when Christ speaks saying that John the apostle is to be Mary’s son. The Cross creates new relationships. Blue/gold/brown. Blue – traditionally Mary’s colour. Gold and brown – Divine and human – side by side/shuffled together.
Small Song
Gillian said “As for small song… I often feel that painting, like music, can be a language for the soul – a song from the heart – and this is really what the title Small Song refers to.”
Moment
This picture was inspired by words from Going In Faith by Frederick Beuchner. “If someone were to come up and ask me to talk about my faith it’s exactly the journey through space and time I’d have to talk about. The ups and downs of the years, the odd moment, the intuitions”.
